Help us fight proposals for two

Gypsy & Traveller sites at Homefield, Hall End and Tanhouse Lane Rangeworthy

You must take part !

A planning application was submitted to South Glos Council in July 2011 for a proposed Gypsy and Traveller site on Tanhouse Lane in Rangeworthy and we were hoping you would support us in objecting to the proposal, this is not the same as the proposal of a year or so ago, this is an actual planning application that could be passed within weeks if not challenged.

The council had a site visit on this application and now intend to decide on the case at the Development Control (West) Committee meeting to be held at the Thornbury offices Thursday 24th November2011 at 2:30 pm. See the agenda. If you can spare time, please attend and make your objections count.

The proposal is:

‘Change of use from dairy farm to the use of land for the siting of 12no. gypsy caravan pitches, with associated hardstandings, landscaping, access and works. Erection of 12no. associated utility/day rooms. Provision of 2no. transit pitches and erection of 2no. transit shower rooms. Erection of site managers office’

For full details of the application go to S. Glos. planning page

12 pitches and 2 transit pitches (for travelling gypsy’s) has been applied for along with a site managers office, if 5 people (records suggest this is a conservative estimate) occupy each pitch the population on Tanhouse Lane could suddenly increase by as many as 70 people! The proposed site is accessed off of Tanhouse lane through the old riding stables entrance next to Leechpool Dairy Farm with the site mangers office and transit pitches being at that end of the site and the permanent pitches in the fields bordering Lime Kiln Road. The impact on the local area and you as a local resident will be enormous and we must do everything we can to stop this proposal from going ahead.

We are not asking for anything other than a few moments of your time to either go on line or write to the council and formally object to this proposal.

You can then:

post it to: South Gloucestershire Council Planning, Transportation & Strategic Environment PO Box 2081 The Council Offices Castle Street, Thornbury Bristol BS35 9BP

or E Mailit to: PlanningApplications@southglos.gov.uk Quote: PT11/2001/F

Alternatively you can go on line and object on the councils website

The link will take you straight to the application, click on the comments tab and complete the section, don’t forget to tick ‘objection’ in the ‘reason for comments’ box.

Please remember you must keep you reasons for objection on grounds of planning issues and not anything persona

This is your chance to stop this. Take part.

What ?

Residents in the area around Rangeworthy, Wickwar and Hall End have been horrified to learn about proposals to put Gypsy and Traveller site in the middle of this rural area. The proposals affect the Ladden Brook valley, a rural area to the north of Yate, Brimsham, and Chipping Sodbury

South Gloucestershire County Council have spent your money over the last 6 years opposing other planning applications for the same sites. What they are proposing now is a complete U-turn on policy.

The proposals are contrary to Government guidelines on the location of Gypsy and Traveller sites. These guidelines recommend the selection of sites that are close to buses, schools, shops, GPs, etc and for the sites to encourage integration with the local community as a key part of local council strategy. This site's remoteness alone is contrary to 7 of the 23 recommendations made in the Goverment guidelines.

Where ?

The proposed sites are at (A) Homefield, Hall End (about half way between Rangeworthy and Wickwar) and (B) Tanhouse Lane, Rangeworthy (less than 2 miles to the south)

How Big is "a pitch" ?

South Gloucestershire regard a "pitch" as typically 3 structures. A residential caravan, a touring caravan and a "day room". There is no real limit to the size of a pitch, The only definition is that it is the accomodation and area occupied by a single extended family - each pitch could accommodate 3 generations of an extended family. once occupied, the residents could easily expect to add more structures. That would be a huge number of people vehicles (some commercial) and animals going up and down the neighbouring lanes!!! Have a look at the picture on the right showing a single family site in Hampshire. Click on it to have a closer look. Then multiply that by the number of pitches in each case to see how many units each application wants.

What can we do about it ?

We have been advised by a planning consultant that we need to fight TWO issues.

We urge you to object to both of the issues.
